The Fool On The Hill

I went for a drive around Caledon last week, purposefully waiting for rainy, overcast conditions. On days like that one can get some great dramatic photographs, but unfortunately it doesn't bode well for dramatic skies. That day however, I decided to try out some high-contrast landscape shots. This is the first of two from that trip. It works. I like the minimalism of the image.

The Fast Moving Storm

Marina and I watched as this storm quickly approached us. It was one of the fastest rain clouds I have ever seen, reaching us from the point of this photo within a minute.

Hitchin' A Ride

Hitchin' A Ride, originally uploaded by Christian Stepien.com.

I was visiting my mother yesterday, and we sat on her veranda while it rained. I watched this guy crawl up her railing, and when he made it to the top an ant ran up to it. The next thing I knew the ant was on top, which didn't make much sense since he was moving way faster than the snail.

A Flower On The Side Of The Road

I finally made it out to Caledon yesterday to drive around and enjoy summer in the country. I came across this amazing flower on the side of the road, right beside a ravine with a whole bunch of little frogs.

"The Excess Mindstate"

I'm making it official. The album that took me a year to record...the album that has been complete since 2005...is finally going to see the light of day!

Exchange Hotel

Another older shot, made in Hillsburgh, Ontario about 4 years ago. The hotel's facade has been renovated since this photo was made.

By the way, I've updated www.christianstepien.com! Check out the photography section and enjoy the flash albums! Let me know what you think!

Talking Tree

Talking Tree, originally uploaded by Christian Stepien.com.

I made this image in the winter of '04/'05 with the ol' Pentax Spotmatic. It's called the talking tree because as the wind blew, the hollowed out trunk was making this deep, creaking sound. I remember having to trudge through deep snow to get this image, but it was worth it.

The Eyes Have It

I feel I'm becoming a dog portraitist! I've got to get out into nature and get back to the landscape work! But she's just so freakin' cute!

Lola, In Profile

Lola, In Profile, originally uploaded by Christian Stepien.com.

She fell asleep last night on our kitchen floor, and her head was dead centre on one of the tiles. It was a perfect backdrop.

Rain and Rainbow Over Meadowvale

I made these two images a couple of weeks ago, and thought they would look great as a diptych.

Cat Tails in Sturgeon Lake

There were some huge green cat tails out there, with a contrasting yellow plant growing in between. Inspiration struck. Hence, this photo.

Nero Is Tired

Yep. He was pooped. Considering he kept Katja up all night with his heaving breathing and whining (it was too hot for him), I can see why.

Happy Canada Day 2009!

So last night, at the last minute, we decided to pick up some fireworks. After driving into a crazy packed Streetsville, we got some and headed back to the park behind our building. That's my brother-in-law setting off the fireworks. Despite having sharper images, I really like the chaotic blurriness of this one.

Nero...Watching...

Nero...Watching..., originally uploaded by Christian Stepien.com.

Along with Lola came Nero, an 11 year old German Shepherd owned by our friend Katja. He's huge. He's also a suck. Every time Lola went to play with him, he got up and moved (while swearing at her under his breath).
